The space between thoughts

Jean Klein · Advaita Vedanta
About 15 minutes

Notice that thoughts arise and pass away.

Between one thought and the next, there is a gap—a space.

Turn your attention to that space. Not to the thoughts, but to the silence between them.

This silence is not nothing. It is alive, alert, aware.

As you rest attention there, you may notice the gaps become longer. Thoughts become less frequent.

But do not make a goal of this. Simply notice.

This silence is your natural state. Thoughts are visitors. The silence is home.

You do not need to create this silence. It is already here, always.

Let your attention sink into it like a stone sinking into still water.

Rest there.
