Books
"This is the quintessential, aphoristic work, constituting one of the earliest recordings of the Maharshi s teachings, that spells out the nature of the Self and the practice of Self-Inquiry."
"Be As You Are is the definitive compendium of his knowledge, edited by the former librarian from Sri Maharshi's ashram, which can be found flourishing at the foot of the holy mountain of Arunchala. The book collects conversations with the many seekers who came to him for guidance, answering the questions sought on the road to enlightenment."
"Everybody is aware, all seven billion of us. We are aware of thoughts, feelings, sensations, and perceptions. All people share the experience of being aware, but relatively few people are aware that they are aware. Most people’s lives consist of a flow of thoughts, images, ideas, feelings, sensations, sights, sounds, and so on. Very few people ask, 'What is it that knows this flow of thoughts, feelings, and perceptions? With what am I aware of my experience?'"
"Our world culture is founded on the assumption that the Big Bang gave rise to matter, which in time evolved into the world, into which the body was born, inside which a brain appeared, out of which consciousness at some late stage developed. As a result of this “matter model,” most of us believe that consciousness is a property of the body. We feel that it is “I,” this body, that knows or is aware of the world. We believe and feel that the knowing with which we are aware of our experience is located in and shares the limits and destiny of the body. This is the fundamental presumption of mind and matter that underpins almost all our thoughts and feelings and is expressed in our activities and relationships. The Nature of Consciousness suggests that the matter model has outlived its function and is now destroying the very values it once sought to promote."
"The purpose of The Transparency of Things is to look clearly and simply at the nature of experience, without any attempt to change it."
"This book is about enlightenment, spiritual awakening, self realization, meditation, awareness, consciousness, happiness, love, relationships, psychological suffering and human predicament."
"What you are looking for is what you already are, not what you will become. What you already are is the answer and the source of the question. In this lies its power of transformation. It is a present actual fact. Looking to become something is completely conceptual, merely an idea. The seeker will discover that he is what he seeks and that what he seeks is the source of the inquiry."
"We’re talking about metamorphosis. We’re talking about going from a caterpillar to a butterfly. We’re talking about how to become a butterfly."
This collection of the timeless teachings of one of the greatest sages of India, Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj, is a testament to the uniqueness of the seer's life and work and is regarded by many as a modern spiritual classic. I Am That (first published in 1973) continues to draw new audiences and to enlighten seekers anxious for self-realization.
"This book is a compilation of unpublished talks with the contemporary Indian sage, Nisargadatta Maharaj. Recorded in the late 1970s and early 1980s, it represents some of the fundamental teachings of this important sage. All of the sayings point the reader back to the truth of one's true nature--one of undying peace and happiness. Many contemporary teachers, such as Lama Surya Das, Wayne Dyer, and Jack Kornfield, draw on the words of Nisargadatta for inspiration and clarification. These wisdom-teachings are combined with photos of Maharaj and some of the locations he lived in in Bombay and the surrounding area. This book is a spiritual journey back to the source of true and abiding peace and happiness. Nisargadatta Maharaj was a simple family man, and owner of a cigarette shop. The beauty of his teachings lie in their remarkable clarity and wisdom, which is borne of the highest realization and spiritual understanding."
"This complete guide to enlightenment presents the wisdom of the ancient science of self-inquiry, a time-tested means for achieving spiritual freedom. The author convincingly refutes the popular view that enlightenment is a unique state of consciousness and debunks a host of other myths. In his straightforward style he reveals proven methods for purifying the mind, and takes the reader from the beginning to the end of the spiritual path, patiently unfolding the logic of self-inquiry."
"Eckhart Tolle is emerging as one of today's most inspiring teachers. In The Power of Now, already a word-of-mouth bestseller in Canada, the author describes his transition from despair to self-realization soon after his 29th birthday. Tolle took another ten years to understand this transformation, during which time he evolved a philosophy that has parallels in Buddhism, relaxation techniques, and meditation theory but is also eminently practical. In The Power of Now he shows readers how to recognize themselves as the creators of their own pain, and how to have a pain-free existence by living fully in the present. Accessing the deepest self, the true self, can be learned, he says, by freeing ourselves from the conflicting, unreasonable demands of the mind and living present, fully, and intensely, in the Now."
“With a mixture of empathy, fierceness and compassion, Georgi cuts straight to the core of an issue." ~ Mark Wolynn, Director of the Family Constellation Institute
"A collection of talks by Swami Vivekananda on the aspects of Vedanta that are for the Westerner both practical and applicable to us in our daily lives. Religion must be rational and reasonable."
